What a fantastic article - I wish I had been there to hear their presentation. We are in a time where those of us of a certain age cannot hope to understand how learning works for the younger generation. If we don't listen to them now, we will never learn...

Computers are only assistants and a good teacher’s will always be needed. However social networks such as facebook and YouTube as well as great resources including Wikipedia and Wolfram-Alpha are here to stay so that educators must use them in the teaching process. Many academics are posting great educational videos and materials online. The only problem is to sort the good ones from the rest and present them in an organized manner.

This effort is being done by: http://Utubersity.com which presents the best educational videos available on YouTube in an organized, easy to find way to watch and learn.

They are classified and tagged in a way that enables people to find these materials more easily and efficiently and not waste time browsing through pages of irrelevant search results.

The website also enhances the experience using other means such as recommending related videos, Wikipedia content and so on. There's also a Spanish version called http://utubersidad.com

This is a project that YouTube should embrace itself, with curated content from academics and maybe using a different URL (Youtubersity?) so it won’t be blocked by schools.

The maxim "you get what you measure" applies here. Although many teachers use Facebook these days, as one currently "teaching" ECDL to Year 9 and expecting a 100% pass rate, I've been overwhelmed by teaching staff seeking the self same qualification. What we should be teaching isn't how to use a search engine, but how to evaluate what its algorithm throws up and to reject the often biased and unsupported assertions regularly found on the web.

You've opened an interesting debate, but I doubt our political masters will be too interested.

Teachers have been trained to control and the current Ofsted regime doesn't encourage unpredetermined outcomes. Despite this, adults instinctively value that which we have taught ourselves.

The boys are a great credit to our school. Articulate and respectful.

As for the audience, they were fully aware of who they were speaking to, we just emphasis the importance of integrity and honesty.

Thank you for recognising their contribution.

Good work, and very illuminating what those 2 young men contributed.

Gone are the days when just the pupils/students must listen to teachers. Teachers have to listen and learn much more too, to catch up with relevant modern technology's advances, bringing much more interactive education achievable.
